We are pleased to announce that one of our tracks from Medusa Complex has been chosen to be featured on WACA Vol. 4! The Women's A Cappella Association is devoted to empowering women in a cappella and we are so honored to be chosen by such an amazing organization. Also keep an eye out for a track by Lady Jaye and our alumna Bri Holland. We couldn't be prouder!

Medusa Complex is Live

After being released on Spotify and iTunes early June, Men in Drag’s 3rd studio album, Medusa Complex, has finally arrived in physical CD form! That’s right. Break out your Walkman and get ready for your end-of-summer playlist to get that much better.

This album, arranged and sung entirely by MiD members and alumnae, contains years of our hard work and gender-defying musical choices (women singing a cappella heavy metal? definitely) and we ultimately could not be happier with the results. We can’t wait to share it with all of you!

If you haven’t already, head over to iTunes or Spotify to get your copy now or you can find us on campus in the Fall selling dropcards and CDs. Thank you so much for all of your support, and we hope you enjoy.

Men in Drag's 3rd Studio Album: Medusa Complex!
Posted By: Sophie Landay | 04/11/2016, 12:32 AM

We are absolutely thrilled to announce the upcoming release of our third studio album, titled "Medusa Complex." Medusa Complex will be the culmination of more than three years of work and represents Men in Drag’s core values: challenging gender norms, taking swings at the patriarchy, and bringing passion and swag to all female a cappella. We are also thrilled to be able to say that it will be one of the most heavily-awarded albums in recent a cappella history (can we get a what whaaaaat?) with not one but two CARA’s for previously-released-singles Coming Undone and Givin Em What They Love, two runner-up CARA finishes for the same songs, and features on the Sing 10: Neon, Sing 12: This Big!, and Waca Vol. 2 compilation albums, all before anyone has even heard the complete track list! And, as if that were not enough, both songs also received perfect 5.0 ratings from The Recorded A Cappella Review Board (RARB). We cannot wait to see what people think of the record as a whole!

We recently wrapped up recording and have sent the tracks off to be mixed and mastered. The finished product will be released on Wednesday, June 1st, and we will hold an album release concert that evening to celebrate and to share with you all the fruits of our labor!

We've worked very hard through paid performances, our annual Pie Auctions, and concert ticket sales. However, producing an album is a very expensive process (with each track costing about $1200), and we're still a bit short. To help us out, some of our wonderful alumnae have created a Kickstarter, and we would greatly appreciate any contribution you are able to make to the cost of producing our album! We are eternally grateful for your support and we cannot wait to share our hard work with you on June 1st!

Fall 2014 Auditions
Posted By: Rachel Hile-Broad | 09/20/2014, 8:21 PM

It's that time of year! As we get more information from the A Cappella Council and work out the details further, we will be updating the "Auditions" tab and our Facebook page.

For now, what we can tell you is:

1. Auditions are happening! We are looking for new voices to fill our ranks, and we couldn't be more excited.

2. We will have a table at the 2014 A Cappella Open House on the Friday of O-Week (September 26) between 11 and noon. We'd love to meet you and will be equipped to sign interested young women (sorry, boys) up for audition times on the spot.

3. Can't decide which group is best for you? First, try out for all of them, and second, come see us perform at the 2014 Fall A Cappella Showcase to see if we are your cup of highly-caffeinated and super sassy tea!

4. This year's auditions will be, as usual, in the afternoon and evening on the Tuesday and Wednesday of First Week (September 30 and October 1, this year).

More information soon to come! Stay tuned!

Spring Happenings
Posted By: Rachel Hile-Broad | 09/20/2014, 7:42 PM

Maybe it's the Changing of the Seasons, but Spring was a happenin' time for Men in Drag.

First things first, we were happy to welcome Lekha back from her study abroad in Mexico for her last quarter as a Dragon and to wish happy travels to Kat as she headed off to Barcelona.

Performances came right after another this Spring, starting with a (very successful) 6th Annual Pie Auction, which we would like to thank our friends and family for supporting so wholeheartedly. We also were honored to support our school not once but twice this quarter, singing the National Anthem at the 2014 UAA Outdoor Track and Field Conference Championships and the Alma Mater at the College Honors Awards Reception (who knew it had five verses?!). Our biggest event, of course, was our Spring Concert, where we brought back some of our favorite tunes to send our departing Dragons off with.

We also spent some time in the recording studio with now-professional alumna Bri, and will be releasing more information about some exciting new music in the near future.

For now, a warm thank you to all who contributed to our success this school year, and lots of love to our fourth-years (and you, too, Chloe). We hope you continue to use your voices to brighten the world around you and push back on those pesky heteronormative social constructs. After all, the patriarchy isn't going to overthrow itself!

We Won Two CARAs!
Posted By: Chloe Atchue-Mamlet | 04/18/2014, 1:27 PM

Spring finally came to Chicago, and Men in Drag couldn’t be happier! It was a long and cold, if eventful, Winter Quarter here by the lake. Along with gradually increasing temperatures and budding trees come one of Men in Drag’s favorite spring events: prospective student weekends! These weekends present valuable opportunities for us to meet potential new Dragons*, as well as to get more exposure here on campus.

As if the excitement of new first-years isn’t enough, last weekend brought Men in Drag not one but two CARAs! We were thrilled to receive awards for Best Female Collegiate Song and Best Female Collegiate Arrangement, as well as a runner-up finish to Jordan Miller-Surratt for Best Female Collegiate Solo. We would like to thank CASA for the honor, as well as alum Brianne Holland for helping us achieve such success with our Coming Undone single.

As ever, it is a good time to be a Dragon*.

Winter Quarter Wrap-Up
Posted By: Chloe Atchue-Mamlet | 04/05/2014, 8:17 PM

Phew, winter quarter sure was busy! But GREAT. Just how we love it!

We had SUCH an incredible tour this year! 5 days, 2 awesome cities (Pittsburgh and Philadelphia), and 5 gigs - 3 at our members' old high schools, which was extremely fun. Nora celebrated her 22nd birthday, and she and Lekha, the other 22-year-old, rocked out to T-Swift while the rest of us watched (we tried to join in, but apparently only 22-year-olds are allowed to dance to that song...). We somehow managed to turn Harry Potter 7 Part 1 into a hilarious movie, and we ate more cheese than nine people probably ever should, despite the fact that Kat doesn't even like cheese, because she's insane. Four of us left Philadelphia with piercings that weren't there upon arrival, and we dropped Lekha, our music director, off at the airport and said a bittersweet goodbye to her, as she left to study abroad until spring quarter, which started a week ago. Her last words to us: "Don't forget me - FOMO." As if we ever could. Winter tour (or WinTour, as we're now calling it, thanks to Jordan's brilliance), is always a combination of extreme productivity and extreme bonding, and this year was no exception. It was a fantastic way to end our first quarter together and kick off winter break.

In February, we had a blast competing in the ICCAs (The International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella)! We had loads of fun, debuted three new songs, and won Outstanding Choreography for our set! This was our second year competing, and we are so glad we did.

At the end of the quarter, we had our annual pie auction, which was a huge success! Some highlights include Salted Honey Pie, Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownie Oreo Pie, and Nutella Peanut Butter Venn Pie-agram (baked lovingly by our alumna Lena and sold to the boys of Run for Cover for a record-breaking $75!).

Winter quarter was rough, especially considering the weather, but it was a good quarter to be a Dragon*.

* For years, we've struggled with what to call ourselves. Men? Naw, man. Dragons.

Sing 10 and the 2014 ICCAs
Posted By: Chloe Atchue-Mamlet | 11/15/2013, 1:34 AM

November has been a really exciting month for Men in Drag!

We are so excited to announce that "Coming Undone" has been selected to appear on Sing 10: Neon, an a cappella compilation album featuring scholastic and professional groups from around the world! Thanks so much to CASA (The Contemporary A Cappella Society of America) for the honor - we couldn't be more thrilled!

Additionally, we are gearing up for the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella! We've started crafting our set, and we can't wait to compete a second time. Stay tuned for more details about the event!

AcappellaFest 2013
Posted By: Chloe Atchue-Mamlet | 10/15/2013, 1:13 PM

AcappellaFest was this past Saturday, and we had the MOST amazing time! Our extremely helpful masterclass with Breath of Soul, the awesome collegiate showcase, the workshops, and the professional concert, featuring Dakaboom and Breath of Soul, were all incredible and inspiring! We loved meeting new people and getting to know others better, we had a great first performance with our new members, and we were honored to receive runner-up in the A Cappella Community Award (ACA) for Favorite Female Collegiate Group!

All-in-all, a wonderful way to start the year!

New Single - Coming Undone
Posted By: Brianne Holland | 10/01/2013, 1:26 AM

Just in case you missed it at last night's UChicago A Cappella Showcase concert, we just announced the release of our new single, "Coming Undone!" This song, a cover of the original by Korn, was first featured in our 2013 ICCA set (our first foray ever into the ICCA), and we're so happy to be able to share it with all of you now. You can check it out on Loudr and iTunes!

Also, you might have noticed that this is the first time we've mentioned Loudr. It's an amazing online music platform that allows you to purchase our music for the same price as you would on iTunes, but we get a much larger percentage of each sale. Additionally, you can choose to pay more than the minimum price on Loudr as a way to donate to us. We'd really appreciate it if you bought all of our music on Loudr from now on, as it really does make a significant financial difference to us!
